WWF King of the Ring at Sullivan Stadium in July 1986
Going through my old photo albums again. I was a huge “Rowdy” Roddy Piper fan when I was a kid, even though he was the ultimate bad guy. I remember kids in my class always giving me flack for being a Piper fan. Back then, we all still thought it was real. A few months before he turned “babyface” (good guy), he fought at the 2nd ever King of the Ring (long before it was a pay per view TV event) at the old Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts – about 30 minutes south of Boston. It’s where the New England Patriots played before Gillette Stadium was built.
I don’t remember much about this show, but I did keep the promotional poster on my wall all throughout my teenage years. It was hosted by one of my favorite radio people, Karen Blake (“The Madame”) from WZOU. I had the chance to work with Karen years later when she did mornings at WODS.
You’ll have to forgive the crappy quality of these pictures. They were taken with a state-of-the-art Kodak Disc (remember those?) camera. And enjoy a picture of a young me in my someday-I’ll-be-a-serial-killer glasses I had to wear as a kid.
