Wright's Gourmet House Turned Me Into a BLT Fan
It took 40 years, but I finally have developed an appreciation for the simple BLT. Wright’s Gourmet House on Dale Mabry does it right – load the sucker up with tons of bacon. Don’t make lettuce the star of the show. It’s not ready for prime time. It should be a BBBLT. Bacon, bacon, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Toast that bread and get some butter soaked in. Then add a little potato salad and finish off with the peanut butter chococlate cake or cupcake and bam… life is good.
It took me a few years to finally try Wright’s. It’s on Dale Mabry which is between work and home for me – but not convenient to either. When I was buying my house, I had to sign documents in Ruskin. The lady there had a menu sitting on her desk and she reluctantly gave it to me to encourage me to try the place out. It sat in my drawer for 3 years. Finally one day I dropped in and had the best Cuban I’ve had anywhere. There would be two more visits that same week. I was hooked. I finally settled on the BLT as my go-to choice. As simple as a BLT is, Wright’s has created a masterpiece.
