Tampa Bay Lightning Game 6 Watch Party Live Broadcast
We did our first on location QYK night show this week as Amalie Arena opened up its doors to fans to watch Game 6 against the Blackhawks in Chicago. An estimated 17,000 filled the arena to watch the game on the big screens. Although the Bolts didn’t come away with a win, it was a win for hockey in Tampa Bay. Fans from the north who were sore after their teams were eliminated said Tampa isn’t a hockey town. They were proven wrong. Car flags flew all over Florida. Downtown Lightning banners ran down the sides of buildings. This is a young team and we’ll have most of the same roster next year.
On the air, it started out rough as torrential downpours kept a bunch of us huddled under the Selmon Expressway. Once the rain let up, we stopped by Ferg’s Live where the QYK street team’s tent had blown away. Then it was off to section 302 to sit with the team’s rowdiest fans, the Sticks of Fire.
My favorite picture from last night. It's not framed well. It's blurry. But about a half hour after the game ended, I was wrapping up the QYK broadcast and walked by the Lightning shop. It was PACKED. If anyone still thinks Tampa is not a hockey town, they clearly have not been here the past few months. #tampa #BoltsSocial #sticksoffire #tampabaylightning #stanleycup #bolts #WQYK #995QYK #QYK
